Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire a Director for Individual Giving to join the NVFS Development and Communications team! As the Director of Individual Giving, you will play an integral role in the successful implementation and ongoing fund development efforts at NVFS. As the Director, you are primarily responsibility for the development of an individual giving strategy, including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new and existing donors. You would report to the Vice President of Development and will work in tandem with NVFS staff and board members to develop and grow the Northern Virginia Family Service individual giving program and drive strategies for annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving. You will also play a critical role in generating donations for the NVFS Fund for Families capital campaign, currently underway.

This position has a starting salary of low to mid 90s.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a leader in the Development & Communications department.
- Lead the Agency’s individual giving strategy including planning and carrying out the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual giving prospects with an emphasis on mid-level and major annual donors ($1,000+ giving level) and multi-year and planned gifts.
- In collaboration with the EVP and VP, serve as a lead for the NVFS Fund for Families capital campaign.
- Serve as an external ambassador for NVFS, representing the Agency among various stakeholder groups.
- Lead efforts to elevate annual giving donors to the major gift level.
- In collaboration with development staff, implement an effective and comprehensive annual giving program that includes direct mail, electronic fundraising, honor and memorial gifts, online giving days and emerging platforms.
- Develop and implement a planned giving program.
- Review database reporting to consistently monitor and evaluate individual giving outreach and performance across the agency, all program areas, and throughout the NVFS geographic footprint.
- Prepare prospect research and develop donor briefings and proposal materials for donors.
- Collaborate with Communications staff to develop donor-facing content and implement donor acquisition strategies.
- Collaborate with the Community and Volunteer Engagement team to engage the Agency’s robust network of volunteers as donors.
- Develop a deep understanding of NVFS programs and services and the clients NVFS supports.
- Participate in regular supervision with supervisor and provide regular updates.
Your Background: We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.
- At least five (5) years of experience in nonprofit development with a focus on individual giving
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in the stewardship and procurement of major gifts, integrating volunteer engagement outreach with an annual giving strategy, and managing fundraising deliverables through a CRM
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Emotional intelligence and strong customer service orientation
- Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, lead projects, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work well as a team player
- Oral and written fluency in English; additional language skills always welcome
- Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability
Additional requirements:
- Successful completion of background checks upon hire
- May be called upon to work beyond normal working hours
- Must have reliable transportation to visit ADU properties and designated community locations
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, stoop, lift, and reach with hands and arms.
