The Marin County Department of Finance is responsible for the powers and duties of the offices of the auditor, controller, tax collector, treasurer, and public administrator. ABOUT THE POSITION
There is currently one (1) Full Time Payroll Accounting Technician vacancy in the Department of Finance. Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they meet minimum qualifications.
Under the supervision of the Payroll Manager and direction from the Senior Payroll Accounting Technician, the Payroll Accounting Technician performs simple to complex tasks including maintaining employee withholding and deduction data; interpreting and applying County policies and government payroll regulations; and processing related payroll transactions. In addition, the Payroll Accounting Technician assists with the analysis and evaluation of payroll, and direct pay of insurance premiums. This position requires attention to detail to ensure payroll is processed accurately, and according to County policies, collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws, while consistently meeting deadlines
ABOUT YOU
Our Highly Qualified Candidate: remaining calm under pressure in a fast-paced working environment. Exceptional customer services skills are required, including the ability to handle inquiries with tact and diplomacy. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic including the ability to prioritize work and remain organized. They are proficient in Microsoft Office with mastery of Excel including functions such as v-lookup and pivot tables. Experience leading or assisting with payroll processing for a medium or large business or government entity is also highly desirable.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE OF
Methods and procedures used in processing payroll documents and transactions.
Practices, methods and procedures used in automated accounting, auditing and financial record keeping and report preparation.
Principles and practices of auditing and reconciling a variety of financial and accounting documents and records.
Computer applications related to payroll processing, including spreadsheet and data base applications.
Standard office practices and procedures including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
Provide assistance to payroll clerks in the preparation of bi-weekly payrolls.
Learn County and departmental rules, regulations, policies and payroll procedures.
Interpret and explain personnel and payroll matters.
Analyze and solve problems related to payroll processing.
Organize own work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
Deal tactfully and courteously with various levels of County employees and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One year of experience as a Payroll Accounting Technician Trainee; OR equivalent to completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 quarter units) with major course work in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field and one year of responsible payroll record keeping experience or related accounting/bookkeeping experience. Additional payroll experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
