To assist in the delivery of Occupational Therapy services in direct patient care and departmental upkeep in coordination with the rehabilitation team and in compliance with organizational goals and appropriate regulatory agencies. Performs Occupational Therapy procedures as delegated by an Occupational Therapist and under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to treat adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with physical disease or injury and assesses and reports patients progress in obtaining maximum function. Must perform in accordance with established Occupational Therapist Assistant guidelines.
Essential Duties:
- Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the therapy assistant implements care per policy. Communicates back to supervising therapist, in a timely manner, unexpected patient response to treatment or worsening of patient condition.
- Consistently completes all required documentation as per departmental policy.
- Manages a full patient case load, all documentation and communication requirements, and assists in meeting departmental efficiency requirements. Performs other non-patient care tasks as directed.
- Provides education for and evaluates performance of students or new staff members. Receives satisfactory evaluations from precepted students.
- Demonstrates commitment to the profession as evidenced by membership in AOTA/OTAC.
- Publishes, speaks, participates in clinical research, or runs for elected office in AOTA/OTAC.
- Assumes responsibility for a special project as assigned by Department Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req High school or equivalent
- Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or predecessor organization.
- Req Must demonstrate knowledge of current practice in the field of Occupational Therapy.
- Req Must demonstrate mature and sound judgment.
- Req Must demonstrates effective written and verbal skills.
- Req Must demonstrate excellent communication skills with the Occupational Therapist and the health care team in order to maximize the patient's functional outcome.
Preferred Qualifications:
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Occupational Therapy Assistant - OTA (CA BOT) If no certification upon hire, one must be obtained within 90 days of hire. (*Limited Permit Status from CBOT required for the first 90 days, while Complete Certification is obtained).
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $32.40 - $55.08.
