Position Summary:
The Director of Performance Nutrition will support the holistic health and well-being of Rice University student-athletes by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive nutrition care. The Director of Performance Nutrition will work as an essential member of the Sports Medicine team and collaborate directly with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, coaches, medical staff, and administrators to develop and deliver evidenced based clinical and performance based nutritional services. This role emphasizes the integration of evidence-based nutrition strategies to enhance athletic performance, support recovery, and promote long-term health and wellness. The Director of Performance Nutrition will have a wide range of clinical and administrative functions to include individual and team education via a variety of platforms, nutrition consults, supervision of the performance nutrition center, staff education, recruitment and management of interns, and development and implementation of nutrition protocols.
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on campus during both regular office hours, mornings, nights, and weekends as team schedule requires. This position will require regular travel. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Commensurate depending on education and experience. *Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition or related field
- Two or more years of related experience
- Registered Dietitian (RD) with active states through the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- Licensure as required by the State of Texas
Preferences:
- Master’s degree in clinical nutrition, exercise science or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in collegiate or professional sports
- Board certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement clinical and performance nutrition protocols to establish an integrated nutrition program for Rice athletics
- Provide nutrition education to student athletes via one on one, team talks, social media focusing on clinical and performance nutrition, disease management and prevention with a focus on cultural, religious and personal preferences
- Expand nutrition outreach for Rice athletics by recruiting training and mentoring of Rice students and dietetic interns
- Serve as the sports nutrition expert and the primary point of contact for nutrition services and outreach at Rice University
- Coordinate with sports medicine and strength and conditioning to integrate nutrition variables into performance and clinical metrics
- Coordinate with sports medicine, coaches and director of operations to provide guidance on fueling athletes before, during and after competition at home and on the road
- Perform body composition assessments and education for athletes
- Participate as a member of the inter-disciplinary eating disorder team with a focus of early identification of risk, mitigation of risk and treatment
- Design and manage the performance nutrition centers
