Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Student Counselor. Reporting to the Assistant Dean in the Office of Academic Services (OAS) in the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), the Academic Advisor is a team member in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer service-focused environment.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Provides academic advising and counseling to undergraduate students, assists them with problem solving, and teaches them to advocate for themselves;
- Establishes and maintains productive contact with assigned caseload of Newark College of Arts & Sciences (NCAS) and University College-Newark (UC-N) students to counsel them and facilitate their declaration of major, progress toward graduation, and successful career and/or professional development;
- Works with the OAS junior, senior, and transfer services team on the coordination, development, and facilitation of initiatives targeting students, including, and not limited to, workshops, transcript evaluations, new student registration and outreach, advanced placement credit assessment, and recruiting events;
- Coordinates the graduation certification process and liaises with academic departments and other student service offices to ensure all certifications are completed accurately and within the deadline provided;
- Works with all relevant personnel and offices to update and improve databases, software, programs, and workflow used in the certification process;
- Creates and facilitates initiatives for students in their junior and senior years, maintaining contact and communicating information in effective, efficient, and innovative manners;
- Serves as an Academic Integrity (AI) facilitator, communicates, supports, and upholds AI policies and procedures;
- Assists with office events, including, and not limited to, commencement activities, major/minor fair, as well as other events and duties as needed;
- Works in a manner that furthers the mission of OAS, SASN, and RU-N and contributes to strategic goals.

Work Arrangement |
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.
