We are seeking a temporary Accounting Manager to support the divisions of the Office of the Executive Vice President and CFO, Division of Safety and Operations, and Information Technology Operations. The ideal candidate will manage high volumes of transactions, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and provide strategic insights to support the University’s financial health. This role requires a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and is crucial in maintaining robust, scalable accounting processes. The primary location for this position is GW Virginia Science and Technology Campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the large volume of invoices and transactions are reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
- Responsible for preparation, monitoring, and reconciliation of financial information; compile and reconcile financial transactions and ensure shadow systems reflect correct statuses.
- Meet operational standards by providing accounting information, setting strategies, and suggesting ideas for improvement; work with the FD and FSS team to implement process improvements and reporting metrics.
- Take a ‘hands-on’ approach when necessary to ensure effective operations and adherence to established service level agreements.
- Review cross-functional roles, systems, and functional processes for effectiveness, sustainability, and system improvement opportunities.
- Temporarily oversee and support a team of 3 accounting professionals to ensure productivity and collaboration.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Coordinate and prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop effective working relationships with various departments to support budgeting and financial planning processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to streamline operations.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study.
Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
- Minimum 2 years of management experience.
- Successful record of managing financial operations in support of organizational priorities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, make decisions, and provide leadership in a consultative and collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, diplomacy, and discretion.
- Flexible, analytical, focused on results and efficiency
- Ability to lead and work in a team environment.
- Strong and strategic thought leader who can identify business needs and provide resolution in efficient and innovative ways.

- Prior experience with Oracle, Concur, and AiM/CPPM software is desirable
