Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with approximately 26,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99 . The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Galt is currently accepting applications for
Police Booking Officer
Under direct supervision, employees in this “at-will” classification perform a variety of tasks in the area of criminal booking and transportation. This position may be a part time or temporary position depending on the assignment and work schedule. This position is classified as miscellaneous/non-safety for CalPERS retirement classification purposes.
Under general direction of a Police Sergeant or higher level sworn police staff, perform prisoner bookings and other law enforcement services as required; transport prisoners from the field to the police station or jail and vice versa. Process criminal registrants. Transport prisoners from one law enforcement facility to another. Conduct limited, law enforcement functions at the direction of Police Management, to include enforcing the laws and ordinances of the City, County and State.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities qualifies. A typical way to obtain the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
One (1) year of experience in law enforcement or corrections is highly desirable.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Specialized training or college level coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field is highly desirable.
Licenses and Certificates:
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
Level III or higher POST Reserve Officer certification is required upon appointment and must be maintained during employment. The combination of certification and training to provide the required qualifications by level include:
Level I – Highest Qualification
Completion of a Regular Basic Course or Module I Academy and the Departments Field Training Program.
Level I Reserve Officers must complete 16-hours of department-recognized service per month. At least eight of those hours must be performed in patrol operations.
Level I Reserve Officers must complete 24-hours of POST “Continued Professional Training” every 2 years, remain current in First Aid/CPR, must participate in firearms training, and scheduled meetings.
Level II
Successfully completed a POST-Certified Module II Academy. Level II Reserve Officers must complete 16-hours of department-recognized service per month. At least eight (8) of those hours must be performed in patrol operations. Level II Reserve Officers must complete 24-hours of Post continued Professional Training every 2 years.
Level III – Minimum Qualification
Completion of the POST-Certified Module III Academy. Level III Reserve Officers must complete 16-hours of department-recognized service per month.
Department may require the completion of 24-hours of POST continued Professional Training every 2 years, while may not be required of POST.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and be available for evening, weekend or other shift work. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens or other infectious materials during course of work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Constant face-to-face interaction and communication with the public and co-workers.
- Constant interaction with inmates or clients.
- Occasional public interaction via telephone.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of items of up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting/carrying of 11 to 25 pounds; requirement to lift/carry items of 26-50+ pounds (rarely).
