This person works as a team to provide food service that is safe, accurate, timely, and responsive to the customer and patient’s needs. Food service includes stocking, assembling, and serving portion-controlled hot and cold food, replenishing and stocking stations, and cleaning and sanitation of food service areas and equipment in a safe manner. This person may be cross-trained to work in several areas within Nutrition & Food Services and is expected to have a strong foundation in the different shifts and positions in food service to enable them to support management and operations. Retail Food Service includes serving, cashiering, bussing, and barista duties. Patient Food Services includes assembly and delivery of patient meal trays and sanitation of food service areas. Catering Food Services includes setup, serving, and cleanup of catering events across UCSF Health sites. This position may be responsible for cash, credit card and debit card transactions as well as assisting with daily cash management duties. In addition, this person provides oversight of the food service unit under the general guidance of management. This includes supporting staff and monitoring operations to ensure food service and safety standards are met. This position assists with department audits and documentation, inventory and ordering, troubleshooting general day to day operational issues, small projects to support quality and workflow improvement, and assists to cover sick calls. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer, patient, and staff interactions and is looked upon as the ambassador for the Department of Nutrition and Food Services.

- Two years of college or equivalent
- State of California Food Handler certification or Servsafe Manager certification.
- Experience in lead roles within foodservice, hospitality or retail industries.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 4 years of customer facing experience within the food service, hospitality or retail industries.
- Read, write, follow written or oral instructions and be understood in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Ability to meet physical demands involved with job duties as outlined below.
