Job Description Summary:
The Senior Specialist, Technical Services (SSTS) is responsible for conducting product development and testing laboratory technician duties and maintaining See’s documentation on candy making processes to ensure that lab and plant tests are conducted properly and in a timely fashion and that manufacturing processes yield high quality candy. They conduct experiments in the lab and plant, carry out sensory tests, maintain the PD lab and analyzes and develops detailed technical documentation required to execute consistent quality product. They partner with cross functional areas within the organization to ensure that compliance to product and process specification is maintained.
The SSTS reports to the Director of Research and Development (R&D). The SSTS’s success will come from people and process by developing positive working relationships and using a collaborative approach.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
Maintains PD lab, ensure supplies are stocked, conduct experiments and shelf-life tests as instructed, and conduct internal and assist with external sensory tests.
Conduct experiments for product reformulations and new ingredient qualifications and ingredients substitutions.
Source ingredients and product samples as instructed.
Responsible for gathering, organizing and analyzing data required for creating recipes in ERP, ensuring detailed and precise processing steps and yields are captured.
Support the PlanetTogether teams.
Maintains and updates ingredient specifications in collaboration with R&D, FSQA, Procurement departments and outside Suppliers.
Develops detailed finished product specifications for retail shop use to ensure consistency in product quality and performance. Also generates specs for company-wide use.
Updates and maintains written product formulas to ensure they include comprehensive detail to yield consistency in manufacturing steps and product quality
Assists in new process development, as assigned. Works with R&D on scale up and transitioning of bench top, new products from the R&D lab to the manufacturing floor. This includes development of nutritional labels for newly developed products.
Works with technical services team to develop and update nutritional labels using Genesis software.
Additional projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Food Science or other science discipline, or minimum 4 years equivalent work experience.
Excellent PC Skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Windows environment, MS Office with emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word. Accurate typing skills of at least 35 wpm.
ERP experience preferred.
Meticulous attention to detail in developing technical documentation that drive consistent quality.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proven problem-solving skills.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $33.65 - $38.46; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, in addition to a full range of generous medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
