The Hospital Lab Tech 2 acts as a liaison between the Clinical Laboratory and all hospital and non-hospital sites submitting laboratory specimens. Performs all duties of a HLT 1 processor and assists in HLT 3 non- supervisory duties as assigned, such as assisting with taking inventory of supplies, working on problem specimens, monitoring workflow, training new employees, maintaining communication between outpatient HLT staff and all Clinical laboratory sections, assists in accessioning localization studies, cancels and credits sample as needed, assists in filling out specimen mislabeling form and follows up with nursing unit and problem solving and assisting or covering in answering staff questions. Monitors and troubleshoots equipment issues and opens Service tickets. Oversees un-received specimen DPL pending logs. Reviews Metafile errors. Monitors TUG sample delivery robot and helps troubleshoot with hotline as needed. Oversees (TLA) Total Lab Automation track operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

- Previous knowledge of and experience in a clinical lab setting, and medical terminology
- Valid California Phlebotomy CPT license
- Graduation from college with coursework in biological sciences, or two years of college with some coursework in natural, physical, or social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two years of experience working in Clinical laboratory- Central Processing
- Demonstrated knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with physicians, requesting departments, and other staff including ability to clearly explain complex medical information in both verbal and written form
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Proficient with PC, Windows, Word, Excel, etc.
- Must have knowledge of a clinical laboratory setting and specimen handling
- Must be able to work independently, to resolve problems, and follow on assignments with minimal direction
