SUMMARY
The Sr. Technical Writer will utilize knowledge of construction products, materials, and methods to maintain, write and revise technical documents for the Owner Design Guidelines for a variety of complex project types including office, education, healthcare, research and support facilities.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Owner Design Guidelines Responsibilities Maintains and develops Owner Design Guideline (ODG) documentation which includes ODG Guideline Elements, ODG Master Specifications and ODG supplemental information. Coordinates ODG revisions in tandem with facilities subject matter experts.
Architecture and Engineering Design Knowledge Working knowledge of architectural and engineering design and coordination with technical specifications. Knowledge of design and product trends, construction methodology, building systems, material, and product applications.
Building Codes and Regulations Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
Legal Principles of Documents Possess a clear understanding of the legal principles of the documents prepared.
Work Ethic Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and produce results within deadlines. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Project Specifications Review Review active project specifications provided by external architectural and engineering firms for compliance with ODG.
Internal A/E Team Project Specifications Development Develop project manuals including specifications for small scope in-house projects delivered by internal architecture and engineering team.
ODG Teaching Maintain knowledge of and promote ODG procedures and process with facilities staff and consultants. Conduct learning and development workshops with staff and consultants to inform them of latest updates.
Communication Skills Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years experience in communications, writing and editing technical/scientific material in a medical, academic or research setting. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering. Construction Specifications Institute certification or equivalent. Minimum of three years of experience responsible for developing and preparing architectural and engineering specifications. Proficiency in specification software applications. Knowledge of specification formats – Masterformat, Uniformat and narrative approaches. Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with web interfaces and creating web content and links. Minimum of six years of experience responsible for developing and preparing architectural and engineering specifications. Experience with public sector, healthcare and/or research design and construction. Familiarity with Autodesk Suite including Revit. Proficiency wit computerized project management applications and computerized document management systems.
