Network Engineer Salary Range: $130k to $140k
Position Summary:
The Network Engineer is integral to the operational integrity and strategic expansion of our network infrastructure. Responsibilities encompass deploying, managing, and optimizing network technologies—specifically Palo Alto, Cisco, and Meraki systems, including switches and wireless access points. A strong proficiency in Layer 3 technologies is critical for the role, enabling the engineer to effectively design, troubleshoot, and ensure the robustness and security of our network infrastructure to support the company's dynamic needs. Core responsibilities include engaging in collaborative network design, implementation, and maintenance activities within the Network Engineering team, managing configurations, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency of routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems, creating and maintaining detailed documentation for network architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures, and coordinating with the IT security team to implement network security protocols.
Essential Functions:
Engage in collaborative network design, implementation, and maintenance activities within the Network Engineering team, focusing on Palo Alto, Cisco, and Meraki platforms.
Manage configurations, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency of routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems, maintaining network performance and security.
Create and maintain detailed documentation for network architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures, ensuring knowledge sharing and operational continuity using Confluence, Lucidcharts, and Excel.
Monitor network systems to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, implementing strategic enhancements to improve network reliability and scalability.
Stay informed about emerging networking technologies and trends, advocating for and implementing network improvements to sustain technological leadership.
Conduct regular network assessments and compliance audits, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational objectives.
Creating network optimization reports using tools and dashboards provided by Cisco, Meraki, or other network management solutions to analyze network performance and identify areas for improvement.
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS Degree (4-year) Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. In Information Technology or a related field
4-6 years Related work experience in the IT Industry.
4-6 years Experience with designing, managing, and implementing a fully converged network including Wi-Fi, Firewalls, Routers, Switches, BGP, OSPF, and IPsec.
2-4 years Proven experience working on medium to large size projects.
Experience with IPSec environments
2-4 years Hands-on experience in network engineering, particularly with a focus on deploying and managing solutions utilizing Cisco, Meraki, and Palo Alto technologies, essential for our diverse and dynamic network infrastructure.
Expertise in Layer 3 networking, including a deep understanding of IP routing, multicast, and VPN technologies to support complex network design and troubleshooting efforts.
Comprehensive knowledge of networking protocols such as IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, and QoS. This includes an ability to apply these protocols in creating scalable, reliable, and efficient network infrastructures.
Proficiency in both routing and switching, as well as wireless networking. This includes experience with the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of high-performance wired and wireless network solutions.
Solid experience in firewall management and security practices, with an ability to configure and manage firewall solutions and security policies to protect network resources and data.
Experience with cable infrastructure, including both fiber optic and Ethernet cabling, is important for the physical aspects of our network’s connectivity and performance.
Holding relevant professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or Palo Alto Networks certifications is preferred, reflecting a verified level of expertise and commitment to staying current with technological advancements.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage complex network environments.
Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively within a technical team and across departments.
Autonomous and driven, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
Ability to use diagramming tools like Lucidchart or Microsoft Visio for creating clear and detailed network diagrams that outline the network architecture, facilitating better understanding and planning.
Creating network optimization reports using tools and dashboards provided by Cisco, Meraki, or other network management solutions to analyze network performance and identify areas for improvement.
A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest network technologies and industry trends.
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, work off-hours or extended hours when needed
Ability to rack, stack, lift IT equipment up to approx. 50 pounds, travel domestically, rarely work extended hours and be available for a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule.
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Cisco Certified Network Associate required - to install, configure, and troubleshoot networks using products from Cisco, a major provider of networking services.
CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Technician Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise certification is preferred.
