The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia is seeking a PhD-trained Research Scientist with experience in the area of clonal hematopoiesis. The work will require that the incumbent display significant knowledge concerning genome instability including an understanding of the literature in the areas of hematopoiesis and cardiometabolic disease. Additionally, the position requires experience in cell biology, transgenic mouse models of disease, molecular biology, and phenotypic analyses.
Candidate must demonstrate a high competency in a wide range of murine procedures and molecular biology techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, gene cloning, cell culture, flow cytometry and protein analysis (western blot and ELISA).?
Eligibility for NIH post-doctoral fellowship funding is helpful, but not mandatory. The incumbent will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CVRC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.
Job responsibilities include:
Full-time research or scholarship at the University
Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career
Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Minimum Requirements
Requires a doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experienc
Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to present experimental results.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years’ experience as a post-doctoral researcher is preferred with preference given for those with backgrounds in vascular biology, microscopy, ultrasound imaging, murine models of disease, and human cardiovascular imaging.
This position is renewed on a yearly basis and is contingent upon available funding. Eligibility for NIH post-doctoral fellowship is helpful, but not mandatory.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
