This Southern California facility located in Paramount, CA is the world’s first large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility. It highlights Air Products commitment to energy transition and supports California's decarbonization by producing renewable aviation fuel.
We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer who will be part of the Americas Operations Process Safety team and be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of Air Products facilities and assets primarily in the Southern California region with some support of assets throughout the western US and Canada. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive process safety support to a variety of operations and support teams. The process safety engineer will use a set of tools and methodologies to ensure compliance with corporate process safety criteria and policies. The individual will effectively evaluate risk and develop mitigation strategies to keep our employees, our customers, and our neighbors safe.
Principal Responsibilities
Regularly engage operating teams to influence a strong process safety culture, mindset, and ownership of process safety systems.
Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety-related matters to operations, engineering support, and maintenance teams. This includes facilitating process hazard analyses, verifying presence of safeguards, and conducting risk analyses, vent modeling, and other process safety engineering tasks.
Review proposed process changes, new projects, or equipment modifications for potential safety implications and recommend necessary safeguards.
Lead or assist in investigations of process safety incidents / near misses to identify root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Analyze incident data to identify trends and proactively address potential safety issues.
Develops reports to effectively communicate metrics and trends.
Identify current and emerging process safety issues, regulatory compliance changes, or emerging concerns. Provide recommendations to resolve such problems.
Assist facilities during regulatory inspections and company audits related to process safety.
Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure process safety recommendations and actions are closed adequately in a timely manner.
Deliver training on process safety management topics such as, but not limited to, PHA, MOC/PSSR, risk assessment, process safety in design, and safe operating practices.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred; similar degrees acceptable based on experience.
At least 7 years of Operations or Engineering experience in a technical support or design role with industrial gas (e.g., hydrogen, air separation) and/or refining/chemical processes.
Must have working knowledge and experience implementing process safety elements.
Knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, CalARP, CalOSHA, and other relevant regulations.
Must be able to understand and apply qualitative and quantitative process safety risk evaluation methods to various scenarios and processes (e.g., PHA, LOPA,).
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop effective solutions.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Able to effectively present technical information to audience with non-technical background.
Ability to recognize hazards, drive continuous improvement and promote practical alternatives for risk reduction and risk control measures.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic operating plant environment.
Able to climb ladders and stairs and work safely at elevated locations.
Expected travel is approximately 15-20%, predominantly in North America.

In California, the expected pay range is $136,470 - 197,650 plus Company bonus. This is the pay range that we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
