Position Summary

The Meteorologist functions as the meteorological consultant to the company, providing consulting services and operational weather forecasts to internal clients within the utility.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.?
A reasonable salary range is:?
Bay Area Minimum: $?75,000
Bay Area Maximum: $?113,000
Responsibilities:
- Becomes qualified as a weather forecaster.
- Works in the PG&E Weather Office as required.
- Assists the weather forecasting team during severe storm events.
- Assists with client-initiated technical (meteorological) studies.
- Assists in the development and management of meteorological data collection systems and displays.
- Participates in meteorological field programs for internal utility clients including Nuclear Power Generation, Hydro (weather modification), and Energy Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or Physical Science or equivalent work experience
- Qualify as an operational weather forecaster
- 2 years of experience; can consist of summer work of a technical nature, successful participation in meteorological/atmospheric science field programs; teaching in subject area of meteorology/atmospheric science; or similar experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of weather forecasting.
- Detailed knowledge of California geography and weather.
- Understanding of GIS related concepts.
- Basic knowledge of statistics.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Team collaboration skills.
- Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills
- Familiarity with various software tools and programming Familiarity with web programming such as PHP, XML, and ASP.
