As the Assistant Nurse Manager in Behavioral Health, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care during the evening hours (2 pm - 12 am). You will be responsible for directing and facilitating the work performance of all personnel in a defined patient care area. Your leadership will be crucial in maintaining efficient patient flow, ensuring staff competency, and fostering a collaborative work environment. This position demands acute care hospital experience and a passion for behavioral health.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care Management: Assess and monitor patient symptoms, provide lab test results with physician recommendations, and schedule emergency or same-day appointments. Ensure that patient care is delivered efficiently and effectively.
- Team Leadership: Work independently and collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and office staff. Organize and prioritize tasks to maintain efficient patient flow and respond to medical emergencies.
- Clinical Oversight: Administer IV medication, assist in scheduling tests and procedures, obtain prior authorizations, and initiate homecare referrals. Ensure compliance with CDC, DOH, and OSHA standards.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain operational ER equipment and quality assurance assignments. Ensure that all patient care documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
- Staff Development: Participate in the orientation of new employees, prepare monthly schedules, cover sick calls, and facilitate staff development and cohesiveness. Demonstrate accountability in staffing and scheduling.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote and participate in staff meetings, in-services, and ongoing professional development. Implement principles of team building, delegation, and communication to demonstrate effective leadership skills.
Requirements
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing is required. A Bachelor's Degree is highly desired and must be obtained within 2 years of start date.
- Licensure: Current NYS Registered Nurse License and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Experience: 1-2 years of nursing leadership within behavioral health services (Charge, Lead, Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager)
- Skills: Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficiency with computers is essential.
- Leadership: Proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and demonstrate strong leadership and team-building skills.
