Student Financial and Registration Services (SFRS) is an integrated student services organization designed to assist students, parents, and the GW community in person and via email, and phone with navigating administrative processes related to financial aid, billing, and registration. Our team members are cross-trained in these three areas to ensure a seamless service experience and resolve inquiries at the first point of contact whenever possible. The Student Services Hub (SSH), our in-person service center, is located in the University Student Center.
The Student Services Specialist assists students and families with navigating GW’s administrative processes related to financial aid, billing, and registration. This position informs students and families of important dates and deadlines, requirements for financial aid, and payment options including the monthly payment plan. The Specialist explains transactions on the bill and helps students to use our online self-service resources. This position partners with staff members in Student Financial Assistance, Student Accounts, Registrar, and GWorld to resolve student issues at the first point of contact when possible. This position requires the execution of extraordinary customer service through accurate communication, analytical research, and conflict resolution.
Candidate must possess the ability to work individually and in a team setting, multi-task and effectively prioritize responsibilities, and retain a professional and engaging demeanor.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
- General knowledge of billing, registration, and financial aid processes is preferred.
- Possess a friendly, professional demeanor, with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
- Team player with excellent leadership, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Flexible and available to work varied shifts (evenings and weekends) during peak periods.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and database systems. The ability to learn to use customer tracking software, imaging software, and Banner mainframe database systems to complete daily responsibilities is desired.
- Previous experience with counseling on financial aid issues, registration transactions, and/or reviewing student accounts is preferred.
