Responsibilities:
· Coordinate and set priority for the activities of chemists and/or technicians in the New Product Development group with input from leadership; sets Objectives for group with moderate input from leadership.
· Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, Manufacturing, R&D, and other pertinent departments to identify, design and scale up prototypes for new and existing markets
· Mechanically trained; operate and maintain the Pilot product line
· Source services and materials needed to develop processes/products
· Provide input for quality systems
· Provide input to purchasing for new products
· Maintain security of intellectual property involved in this developmental work
· Maintain compliance on all environmental, health and safety aspects of plant operations
· Compliance with all company work rules, safety rules, and Quanex policies
· Capital and operating budgeting and control to those budgets
· Determine best known practice, train/coach engineering and process staff to best practices
· Drive process and product continuous improvement initiatives through coaching and training best known practices.
· Develop operator, process techs and engineering staff expertise on all current and new processes.
· Provide production support, extrusion trouble shooting, staff coaching and training
· Train, coach, supervise and evaluate department personnel
· Maintain technical documentation supporting process, raw material, and formula (including changes).
· Carry out all job functions in a safe manner consistent with the safety and environmental regulations and standards of the company
Education and Experience:
· BS required, MS degree preferred with a field of study in engineering, polymer science, chemistry, macromolecular science, and equivalent experience.
· 5 – 10 years extrusion and pumping equipment experience required
· 2 years' experience working with adhesives or sealants formulation preferred
· 3 years supervision experience in a QC/Technical support or R&D environment
· 2 years' experience in a technical support role to customers

· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to apply and interpret scientific theories and concepts
· Ability to lead multidisciplinary product development team
· Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision
· Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem -solving abilities
· Proficient in experimental design and analysis using Minitab
· Excellent relationship building abilities
· Strong time management skills, attention to detail and be able to handle multiple projects at any given time
· Must have the ability to interpret drawing and schematics
· Should have working knowledge of mechanical design, control electrical systems, heat transfer, safety standards
· Ability to read, understand and develop standards
· Must be able to interpret budgets and financial documents. Must have moderate working knowledge of Microsoft applications and basic AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
· Potential customer visits to support product design efforts and for maintenance of current customer relationships
· Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. at times
