The Institute for Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine (i. GEM) was established at Temple University in 2014, anchored in CST, and associatedwith the Department of Biology. IGEM's mission is to harness molecular evolutionary know...ledge and tools to advance research and for productdevelopment in biomedicine to biodiversity. Currently, i. GEM has over 14-full time faculty supporting millions of dollars in externally fundedresearch per year. We intend to find a colleague who will expand this research diversity and work closely and collaboratively to build on thedivision's success. The Technical Support Specialist provides a wide range of hardware and software-based technical support to members of the Institute of. Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine (i. GEM).
Responsibilities include
carrying out specific tasks in various areas related to IT Support including:domain object unit administration, software installation and registration, providing first tier technical support to users, recommending hardware andsoftware-based technical solutions, and interfacing with appropriate university offices and resources. Additional responsibilities includeupdating and editing, institute web resources as well as developing new web resources when needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in IT support. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills
and Abilities:
- Ability to support standard office hardware and software needs (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Ability to recommend modifications, updates, and improvements to institute projects, processes, and resources.
- Familiarity and experience with supporting Windows operating system.
- Experience with Active Directory.
- Familiarity and experience with Linux server administration, primarily Ubuntu and RHEL.
- Experience repairing hardware and installing software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment with institute staff, faculty and collaborators.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
- Good organizational skills ensuring that completed projects are documented and maintainable. Preferred:
- Experience and familiarity with SLURM, and HPC in general.
- Experience in virtualization, such as Xen and Virtual. Box.
- Experience with Apache and web server administration.
- Scripting experience (Python, Go, Ruby, Bash, etc.).
