Under general supervision participates in a variety of duties involving graffiti, litter and weed abatement, and in the maintenance of parks and publicly owned grounds, playground equipment, structures and recreation areas.
Knowledge of: Operations and standard operating procedures of a City wide landscape maintenance program; principles and practices of landscaping, landscape maintenance, tree trimming and basic facilities repair; methods, materials and practices used in the preparation of surfaces, priming and painting and mixing paint colors for use in covering graffiti; functions, characteristics, proper use of tools and equipment used in graffiti removal and painting; potential hazards, chemicals and disposal methods, and safety precautions associated with the graffiti removal work and basic recordkeeping techniques.
Ability to: Follow and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective and working relations with others and members of the public; read and interpret maps, diagrams, technical and operational manuals; operate hand tools, power tools, and motor vehicles associated with the work; follow safety rules; safely use chemical solvents to remove graffiti and dispose of chemical byproducts.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities; required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, climb, kneel, reach, push, pull, grasp, pick, pinch, ride and perform
similar body movements; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather; exposure to-potentially-hazardous chemicals, heat, and cold ; work around slippery or uneven surfaces; perform a variety of routine tasks in the care, cleaning and general maintenance of building, grounds and equipment; ability to work hours as assigned; exposure to-potentially-hazardous chemicals, heat, cold and inclement weather conditions; Incumbent may come into contact with cleaning and lubricating chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants.
