Public Safety Ambassador
The Cleveland Department of Public Safety is seeking fifteen candidates from the ages of 18 to 26 who have aspirations for a career in public safety to serve as Public Safety Ambassadors (PSA) by competitive selection. Potential Ambassadors must have a strong desire to acquire an introduction into the career fields of EMS, Fire, Police, Animal Care & Control, or Emergency Communications. The selected candidates will participate in a curriculum designed to foster personal responsibility and gain various trainings from the divisions of Public Safety. PSAs will also be given the opportunity to participate in several community engagement activities that will nurture a dedication to making the City of Cleveland a better place to live, work, and play.

The Ambassador works with the Department of Public Safety and all Public Safety Divisions (Police, Fire, EMS, Animal Care & Control, and Public Safety Admin) to participate in training and provide community service in preparation for careers in Public Safety.
Through small learning communities, Ambassadors with receive career training, social development opportunities and physical conditioning to prepare them for career success.
Through community and civic engagement they will learn first-hand the benefits and responsibilities of public service.
Central to the Ambassador experience are various activities that include career shadowing and exploration activities, mentoring, and job rotation assignments in each Public Safety Division.
Ambassadors will also have the opportunity to earn credentials that will further their success in obtaining full-time employment.
Other duties as directed by the Chief Director of Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 and no more than 26 years prior to start of the program.
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED is required.
A valid driver’s license.
This position is a safety-sensitive position and will require candidates to participate in an extensive background process and review.
Commitment to complete the 10 months program and meet physical fitness training standards.
