Position Summary
The WPHPA Billing Associate is responsible to receive and register patients for all procedures in assigned practice/specialty. To provide all required insurance information to all patients. To be familiar with all components of the different insurance carriers. Be able to enter and confirm accuracy of charges.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Perform accurate and timely daily coding information regarding procedures performed and diagnosis for maximizing reimbursement.
- Register all patients and update any insurance/demographic changes. Data entry for all patient charges.
- Interact and maintain efficient and positive communications with physicians, physical therapist, nursing, front staff, patients, providers and outside facilities and individuals.
- Responsible for daily registration, daily data entry of all physicians and patients charges and insurance verification
- Obtain pre-certification for all treatment (including radiology studies).
- Work closely with patient accounts in regard to all billing issues and any audits.
- Review, follow-up and coordinate with patient accounts regarding any billing issues.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all current insurance requirements.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school graduate or GED certificate required Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare organization.
- Ability to schedule patients and collect all insurance information.
- Knowledge of hospital billing and reimbursement of insurance including precertification for authorization of treatment and radiology studies.
- Knowledge of billing, coding and clinic operating policies.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding of revenue cycle and the front-end contribution to the billing and collection efforts.
- Ability to work with a diverse staff and patient/family population, strong customer service skills, demonstrating tact and sensitivity in stressful situations.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and other medical office software.
- Basic medical terminology.

A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
