• Performs venous phlebotomy. Completes appropriate laboratory forms and/or does computer entry for ordering laboratory services. Accurately labels specimen with patient data.
• Retrieves laboratory and ancillary test results from the computer.
• Performs tests such as hemocue, pregnancy, urine dipstick, Strep A, Finger Stick Glucose Monitoring.
• Monitors and documents quality controls of on-site laboratory testing.
• Performs EKG and audio-visual testing.
• Transports specimen to laboratory as necessary.
• Maintains laboratory area, utility, storage and examination rooms clean and organized.
• Cleans and prepares all instruments for sterilization after use in accordance with Infection Control Guidelines.
• Assists with other patient functions as needed, and as determined by the age of patient, such as placing patients in examination rooms, assisting patients onto examination tables, dressing/undressing, etc.
• Locates, requests and/or sends and receives medical records between clinics and the Health Information Management Department, as needed
• Assures efficient and rapid patient flow at all times. Identifies obstacles, problems and assists in finding resolutions.
• Assists providers with examinations and treatments.
• Assists with administrative and clerical duties, including but not limited to:
• Filing, pulling and prepping charts, answering and relaying phone messages.
• Making/Scheduling appointments for consultation, specialty referrals, and other tests.
• Collection of appropriate data necessary for billing process and information flow relevant to patient in managed care environment.
• Ordering and maintaining par level of clinic and other supplies. Requests repair of equipment when necessary. • High School Graduate or GED
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program Licensed by New York State Department of Education
• Direct patient care experience
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
• Fluent in oral and spoken English
• Ability to document and retrieve information from the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
