1. Independently directs, plans, organizes, estimates, schedules and inspects the technical maintenance work and installation service work, including work performed by unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers including all underground utilities (water, gas, sanitary and/or steam) and all building piped services including, but not limited to, domestic water, process piping, sanitary lines, vents, HVAC and related equipment. 2. Performs on-the-job training of apprentices and less-skilled employees in the plumbing/piped services area. 3. Researches and analyzes new techniques and develops modification approaches. 4. Provides engineering consultation and installation services for research equipment. 5. Provides design/build services for underground utilities and building piped systems. 6. Makes scale layouts, manually or using a computer, to provide designs for jobs. 7. Assists in the preparation of reports, analysis and correspondence 8. May supervise contractors during utility/facility projects on a project-by-project basis. 9. Coordinates and cooperates closely with other skilled crafts personnel and supervisors. 10. Adheres to, and enforces, all applicable state, university and departmental personnel policies and procedures. 11. Organizes, maintains and cleans job sites, tools and machinery. 12. Responsible for maintenance, repair, sharpening, adjustment and safe operation of tools and machinery. 13. Ensures adequate supplies; materials and equipment are maintained to accomplish tasks/projects. 14. Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials to be used on assigned tasks. 15. Responsible for personal safety and upholding departmental safety procedures. 16. Attends all required safety meetings.
