The Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks a full-time Education Research Coordinator to support the Back Academic Development Lab in advancing research on the language, literacy, and culture of African Americans. The position will support the lab's research activities as we work on publications and editing in service of the experiences of Black students and faculty. If you are planning for a future in graduate-level research concerning the educational experiences of Black students from a language, literacy, and culture perspective, this role may be for you.
This position is a 1-year fixed-term appointment that may be extended based on performance and funding. Consideration will be given to applicants across the United States who provide a resume and a cover letter describing their research interests and experiences, as well as their editing and revising skills. The Black Academic Development Lab (BAD Lab) is a multi-university transdisciplinary collective of faculty, students, and educators whose scholarship, teaching, and activism center the lives of Black educators. We are also a center for the study of liberatory linguistics. The candidate will engage with students, faculty, and staff at Stanford and throughout the BAD lab collective.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to Professor Anne H. Charity Hudley, the Research Coordinator is responsible for helping with and contributing to the scholarly and public communications of lab activities, managing the lab schedule, and providing support for lab-related events, including online courses and workshops. The Research Coordinator will also be responsible for editorial support for lab-authored publications and publications edited by the lab.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance. General instruction is provided by the supervisor as needed. May interpret study results in collaboration with supervisor or PI.
Assist with the development, communication, and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web updates, social media, and/or white papers, for use in recruitment, educational, or awareness of programs, with guidance from the supervisor.
Edit and revise manuscripts according to the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) citation formats.
Manage correspondence and correspond with authors regarding submission for publication to scholarly publications and edited collections.
Conduct literature searches and write literature summaries and manuscripts, requiring preliminary judgments after the supervisor outlines the conceptual approach.
Identify, select, extract, and summarize data and structured information. Present summary of findings to supervisor.
Build and organize data as requested by the principal investigator or supervisor; use common statistical programs requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data.
Maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants and journal authors. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data as needed. Schedule and/or call participants for appointments.
Prepare, distribute, administer, and process questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Analyze and summarize results for review with the supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data.
Additional responsibilities may include:
Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable humanistic social science-related field or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science. Related areas include Anthropology, African-American Studies, English, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, and speech and hearing sciences.
General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with human study participants.
In addition, preferred qualifications include:
Proficiency in African American language as achieved through coursework related to African American language, literacy, and culture.
Experience with mixed methods research in the humanistic social science tradition.
Editorial skills and attention to detail, including a strong command of the APA and LSA citation styles.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to working at Stanford University.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $25.96 to $34.61 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
