Education |
- Doctorate or terminal degree and a record of successful teaching, service, and scholarship/ creative activity is required.
- Seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience working in academic leadership at an institution of higher education, including a minimum of three (3) years of administrative leadership in academic affairs.
- The candidate should be or should have been a tenured faculty member who holds the rank of Professor, or equivalent status at another institution, and has held/is holding one or more significant faculty leadership positions that involve faculty review.
- The candidate must be attentive to issues of confidentiality and possess strong interpersonal skills, including those related to conflict resolution. The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Learning Innovations will work collaboratively with the Division’s leadership and other University leaders to advance the initiatives of the division and the university, including a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Experience |
- Combination of higher education administration experience (with increasing levels of responsibility at the level of department chair or higher) and faculty experience (commensurate with tenure and promotion to the rank of associate professor or professor in any discipline), with a track record of successful experience and accomplishments in teaching excellence and innovation, research/scholarly/creative endeavors, and external funding.
- Evidence of formal and informal leadership in the areas of curriculum (e.g., chairing university committees, organization of faculty projects, curriculum development, policy development/implementation, and student advising).
- Ability to work in a collective bargaining/shared governance environment and to interact effectively with a variety of on- and off-campus constituents.
- Experience with higher education curriculum development and implementation, understanding of general education, graduation requirements, and academic assessment, and program review.
- ·Experience with higher education regional accreditation organizations, standards and articulation processes and program reviews.
- Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and manage resources (e.g. financial, personnel, facility, technology, etc.), to achieve strategic priorities.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and advancing racial/social justice and equity in communities and engagements.
- Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
- The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to the mission and core values of Bowie State University; a record of progressively advanced administrative experience in higher education; demonstrated responsibility for a broad range of organizational areas; experience developing, implementing, and overseeing academic curricula, programs, and policies; experience with assessment of learning outcomes, online learning, general education, program review and accreditation; understanding of Middle State Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), University System of Maryland (USM), and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) guidelines, processes, and requirements.
- The successful candidate will also have superior leadership, organizational, planning, and management skills, along with outstanding written and oral communication skills; professional and ethical standards of the highest caliber; sound judgment, maturity, and composure; commitment to providing superior service by example and through administrative practices; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with diverse groups and to engage stakeholders in decision-making; and commitment to promoting success of all students and reducing barriers to success related to differences in dimensions such as race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, and disability.
