Within the next decade, NASA, as well as governments and commercial entities around the world aim to establish a new lunar economy for sustainable exploration on the Moon. High bandwidth, reliable connectivity and communications are a crucial component in making this ambition a reality. Future missions that require HD video, robotics, sensing applications, telemetry, biometrics, and astronaut to astronaut voice communications will need the advanced capabilities that cellular networks enable. This is why NASA selected Nokia Bell Labs to deploy the first 4G/LTE network on the Moon to test lunar surface communications for future applications. We relish this challenge – to deploy a network that will operate under the most extreme conditions imaginable – operate autonomously with self-healing capabilities – pushing the boundaries of communications –enabling the exploration and settlement of other moons and planets … are you up to the mission?
