Role Summary:
The Quality Engineer reports to the Sr. Manager of Quality Engineering and takes direction from the Sr. Quality Engineer. This person is responsible for working with supplier quality team performing analysis and managing vendor performance. This role shall focus on Electrify America’s Suppliers, field performance as it relates to quality and product performance. Responsibilities include driving communication of quality related issues with internal technical teams, trend failure analysis, and the field return practices (RMA) with vendors supporting of analysis and root-cause.
This role will also work closely with the Development teams and TPM assessing product releases during pre-pilot and pilot as well as release performance. Providing of legacy performance data to support the next generation EVSE hardware Systems and other hardware changes and enhancements as part of the new product introduction release process (NPI) including providing key design considerations and specifications based on product field performance.
This person will also be a key participant in Technology, Quality, and Tiger teams as required and provide technical support within this domain as may be needed, working with our vendors and with internal cross-functional departments.
The candidate should possess strong communication skills. A candidate for this role should also have experience working with EV OEM team and providing support and managing escalations and nonconformance of suppliers. This role requires an understanding of Quality Assurance concepts, tools and usage.
This person will play a critical role in ensuring that Electrify America’s customers (B2B and B2C) have a best-in-class experience, driving improvements on hardware quality and safety performance. Their ability to track issues, determine trends and deliver results through supplier quality performance, and play a critical role in consumer charging experience.
Role Responsibilities:
Main responsibility Supplier Quality Engineer 70% of Time
- Perform analysis for failure modes and root-cause using typical quality toolbox, (Fishbone analysis, 5 Whys, 5 How’s, FMEA, 8D and SCARs.
- Provide oversite of the suppliers results and performance.
- Participate in the cross functional alignment between Technology, Quality, and Development as it relates to the supplier performance and customer experience.
- Assure compliance to standards and specifications and performance.
Additional responsibilities- OEM analysis 15% of time
- Assist in identification of issues from analysis in support the OEM team in resolving HW issues related to Safety and EV charging issues as required by either the EV OEM lead or QC/Safety teams.
Additional responsibilities- New Product Introduction Support on EVSE HW 15%
- Work directly with the other cross functional teams and on tiger teams as required.
Years of Relevant Experience:
- 5 years of post-undergrad experience
- 3 years of experience working in or with manufacturing suppliers and working understanding of Quality tools and analysis of data, trends and performance.
- 2 years of experience working with suppliers and technical teams and fault analysis.
Education (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Education (Desired):
Skills:
- Manufacturing and Quality Engineering experience with a Mechanical/Electrical or other engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Ability mentor and assist more Junior level engineers.
- Demonstrated use of logic, reason, and strategic thinking.
- Strong Communication skills – interpersonal, presentation, and written.
- Computer savvy – skilled in the use of software and business tools (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Ability to complete assignments on time and follow guidance from more senior engineers.
- Direct suppliers to Failure mode(S) and Root Cause analysis.

- Familiarity with HW manufacturing processes.
- An understanding of power electronics circuit and concepts.
- Knowledgeable of key charging components.
- Familiarity of High Voltage AC/DC systems and battery storage.
- Understanding of RMA (Return Materials Authorization) process.
- Understanding of UL and other key industry standards.
- Experiences with CAPA process, 8D and SCAR activity as related to nonconformance.
