Job Summary
The Pharmacy Utilization Manager will oversee the efficient and effective usage of pharmaceuticals within the Pharmacy Division. The purpose of this role is to improve quality of care, cost-effectiveness, and clinical outcome through the use of approved drugs on the formulary and assure evidence-based utilization management. This individual will perform comprehensive utilization reviews on targeted formulary approved drugs including purchasing and prescribing trends to ensure evidence-base use across the health system. The manager will prioritize linking utilization to patient outcomes. This position will work closely with the formulary team, patient financial services, high-cost committee, and Harris Health System’s utilization committee to promote financial stewardship by illuminating opportunities for evidence-based cost-effectiveness utilization. Through collaboration with pharmacy, physician, nursing, and informatics stakeholders, the Pharmacy Utilization Manager will coordinate efforts to mitigate unnecessary drug expenditure by monitoring medication utilization and comparing it to clinical outcomes for patients throughout the health system. Ultimately, the manager is accountable for optimal drug utilization and demonstrating clinical outcome of drugs approved by organizational pharmacy & therapeutics committee.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy
- Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or relevant/related field Preferred
- ASHP Residency Training PGY1 and/or PGY-2 or HSPAL. (Required exception may be considered based on significant prior work experience)
Licenses/Certifications:
- Pharmacist- Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Residency
Work Experience: Four (4) Years of Work Experience, or Two (2) Years of Work Experience with Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency, or Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency.
Management Experience: Three (3) Years of Management Experience related to pharmacy with preference for experience in managed care pharmacy, health plan benefits, and/or health-system pharmacy administration.
