Position Overview
The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for overall external reporting for McCormick including Form 10-K and Form 10-Q as well as coordinating the review of the related annual, quarterly and periodic investor relations materials. The position also is responsible for various activities that contribute to preparing, analyzing and controlling our financial results in accordance with GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles). This role will be involved in our monthly close process, evaluate improvement opportunities and complex accounting matters. The role exposure to global finance organization and works against critical reporting deadlines. This role prepares analyses and presents results to Senior Finance leadership including the VP and Controller, VP of IR, and CFO. Key responsibilities of the position include SEC reporting, technical accounting matters, corporate accounting matters and related internal controls, investor relations coordinate and other corporate finance matters, all as detailed in the following, and require an overall coordination of activities, management of personnel and a high level of technical knowledge including several complex areas. Responsibilities require coordination, change management and influencing.
Key Responsibilities
- SEC reporting: Coordinate overall external reporting including filing of 10-K and 10-Q’s. Establish timetable and responsibilities, monitor progress, coordinate internal review, coordinate with external auditors, and prepare and review various supporting information.
- Technical accounting matters: Research and resolve technical accounting and financial reporting issues, including drafting accounting positions papers and perform related analysis to determine financial impact. Serve a liaison with business units on various accounting matters. Coordinate and evaluate the adoption of new accounting standards on a global basis, including coordination with our independent auditors.
- Corporate accounting matters and related internal controls: Coordinate and prepare certain corporate accounting analyses including stock-based compensation, including appropriate valuations, and intangible asset impairment assessments. Ensure processes are supported by an appropriate internal control environment and related execution of controls and supporting documentation.
- Investor relations: Coordinate review of investor relations material including quarterly/annual earnings release materials and periodic investor presentations.
- Corporate finance matters: Support ad hoc projects and requests (IR, Tax, Treasury, Corporate FP&A, HR, Audit, others). Support internal long-term plan, budget, and forecast processes.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or relevant field
- Master's degree preferred
- CPA preferred
- 10 years + experience of progressive experience with a minimum of 5 years public accounting. Experience in the consumer products industry is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and SEC financial reporting regulations / requirements.
- Strong knowledge of the design and operation of a system of internal controls.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables.
- Proficiency with researching regulatory literature, associated market trends, and benchmarking analysis against pending regulations and working in evolving areas.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of operational risks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English will be required to enable effective communication.
- Works well in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with senior stakeholders and build rapport across functional boundaries.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple project / deliverables.
