East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified persons to apply for an immediate opening as an Associate Engineer (Mechanical/Civil/Electrical) in the Commissioning Services Group of the Engineering and Construction Department’s Design Division.
Depending on your background, the Associate Engineer will witness and/or perform mechanical engineering, electrical and process system testing, startup, and commissioning work related to the construction of municipal water treatment and distribution facilities, may direct work of other engineers and technicians, and perform project management tasks. Working locations include construction sites within EBMUD’s service area, the EBMUD Administration Building in downtown Oakland, and work from home.
The ideal candidate will have experience in some or all the following areas:
• Conducting inspection, witnessing testing, and troubleshooting of either electrical equipment, rotating machinery, HVAC, Instrumentation, PLCs, or valves
• Water/Wastewater, or industrial background in systems testing, startup and commissioning according to required standards and codes
• Inspection and witness testing at factory / vendor locations
• Developing and coordinating testing and startup plans
• Managing the commissioning aspect of small to large construction projects
• Coordinating and reviewing the work of other engineers, support staff, and engineering consultants
• Water/Wastewater treatment plant, or pumping plant design or construction experience
• Preparing and reviewing of engineering specifications and drawings, including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical or electrical drawings.
• Reviewing mechanical or electrical equipment submittals and submittals related to process testing
• Preparing reports on commissioning assignments that include text, charts, diagrams, sketches, conclusions and recommendations
• Working with field staff, representatives of other engineering firms, contractors, manufacturers, and vendors regarding the coordination of construction or commissioning work
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, conduct meetings and make presentations
• Willing to learn commissioning skills related to fields of engineering different to the applicant’s background.

The salary range for Associate Mechanical or Civil Engineer is $12,383 per month increasing to $13,002, $13,652, $14,335, and $15,052 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.
The salary range for Associate Electrical Engineer is $12,691 per month increasing to $13,326, $13,992, $14,692, and $15,427 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
1. A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited civil, electrical or mechanical engineering (or closely related) engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate;
2. Four years of professional mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering experience (subsequent to
obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer level; AND
3. California registration as a Professional Engineer (Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical);
Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the position including both office and field duties. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work overtime and 24/7 standby when needed.
