Department Overview
The Wildfire Safety Compliance Team is part of the Electric Operations Regulatory Compliance organization, where our vision is that together we will create a compliance culture that supports and exceeds our regulator’s expectations for safety, reliability, and customer expectations. The Wildfire Safety Compliance team is responsible for processing all Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) and CAL FIRE regulatory compliance activities for PG&E’s electric distribution, transmission and substation operations as well as other regulatory compliance activities related to the Wildfire Mitigation. The Wildfire Safety Compliance Team also serves as the primary liaison with the Independent Evaluator and with CAL FIRE.
Position Summary
The Principal Wildfire Safety Compliance Consultant will provide governance, communication, training, reporting, as well as will provide oversight for the overall process and project management for the Energy Safety and CAL FIRE programs. This position will also support emerging work resulting from regulatory directives. The Wildfire Safety Compliance Team is seeking a highly motivated, organized, analytical yet strategic thinker to lead initiatives focused on integrating Energy Safety and CAL FIRE into Electric by developing processes and guidance documents to memorialize day-to-day activities.
The successful candidate must be comfortable communicating with internal leaders, other IOUs, Energy Safety and CAL Fire, and possess the ability to develop the appropriate communication materials for any of those stakeholders. The candidate must have strong analytical skills and the ability to solve unique and complex strategic issues, problems, and data requests. The candidate must also be comfortable working both autonomously and in cross-functional teams. Finally, the ideal candidate must demonstrate high accountability, strong organizational, collaborative, and project management skills, leadership strength, and be energized and passionate about learning.
This is a hybrid position headquartered in the Oakland General Office. Current department expectation requires coworkers to work in the office at least 1 day per week for regular work and additionally as needed for business needs, generally not to exceed 2 days per week.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.?
A reasonable salary range is:?
Bay Area Minimum: $132,000
Bay Area Midpoint: $179,000?
Bay Area Maximum: $226,000?
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the integration of CAL FIRE requirements and deliverables into Electric’s processes.
- Extract operations data for analysis, leadership support and responses to ad hoc data requests.
- Create, design, and build new compliance program processes and help the organization integrate and operate.
- Work cross-functionally to identify and solve current gaps in data requirements and ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.
- Work cross-functionally with the Wildfire PMO and Compliance Programs Team to document roles and responsibilities around tracking wildfire commitments.
- Lead and manage the dynamics of cross- functional improvement projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Anticipates changes in the regulatory environment or other developments which may impact compliance or risk management and documents new processes or procedures to prepare the organization and create repeatable processes.
- Act as the technical lead, trusted internal consultant, and advisor to create solutions for complex process problems.
- Plan and implement tangible business outcomes for EO Regulatory Compliance using both industry and business expertise.
- Lead design and/or restructure of critical processes to improve compliance program operation and perform change management with stakeholders to implement.
- Manage the intake, investigation, evaluation, and remediation of any Energy Safety or CAL FIRE violations, citations, or audit findings.
- Leads by example by promoting a culture of safety, speaking up, providing insight, continuous improvement, and accountability, and encouraging and mentoring junior coworkers to do the same.
Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience in Electric Utility, 10 years
- 5 years experience in project or program management
Desired
- Juris Doctor (JD) with compliance or legal experience.
- Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP).
- Master’s degree in business administration, engineering, political science, or a related discipline with a strong analytical component.
- LSS-Lean Six Sigma Certification.
- Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and laws, for example Energy Safety, CAL FIRE, or municipal government codes appliable to electric assets.
- Competency in the identification and creation of preventative and detective process controls for compliance.
- Competency in seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies.
- Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
- Competency in knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.
