Examples of Duties
Under the guidance of a journeyman level tradesperson, performs general carpentry work in the repair, renovation, or construction of County properties.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assists with installation and repair of asphalt, rubber, metal, tile, slate, and shingle roofs.
Installs and repairs gutters, flashing, sheeting, fascia, roof vents, drains, and other roof-mounted appliances and accessories.
Installs, removes, and repairs drywall and metal partitions, load-bearing walls, and floor and ceiling tile.
Assists with the installation of trim and molding.
Constructs sheds and other outdoor structures, picnic tables, benches, and cement forms according to specifications of drawings or blueprints.
Replaces glass.
Installs façade material on partitions.
Mounts simple hardware and hangs curtains and blinds.
Uses woodworking tools and machinery to assist with trim and cabinetry work.
EXAMPLES OF OTHER DUTIES
May apply paint, stain, or other chemical coatings and finishes.
May move furniture or other heavy objects in preparing or cleaning up job sites.
May drive an automobile or light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites.
May lead and instruct lesser skilled workers.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications Two years' experience in rough carpentry or general carpentry as an apprentice or helper. Related training may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in the roofing trade.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade.
Knowledge of safety procedures and building codes.
Ability to measure accurately.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to operate machinery, tools, and equipment used in carpentry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)
Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing performance of duties.
Skill in operating machinery, tools, and equipment of the carpentry trade.
Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license at the time of appointment.
Examination Procedure Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Conditions of Employment
Employees hired after July 1, 2022, are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice. Employees in this classification may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis. After hours and on weekends, employees must be available by phone in case of emergency.
Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, the lifting and carrying of heavy objects, and the operation of machinery, tools, and equipment. Some duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as airborne particulate matter and inclement weather. Some positions require travel between work sites.
