The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.
SAS offers more than 100 majors and minors across the life sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and mathematical and physical sciences with research centers and institutes across the school. With a diverse student body of more than 20,000 students, SAS has a membership of over 1,700 faculty members, more than 500 administrative staff, and 200,000 living alumni.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Department Administrator for the Genetics Department within the School of Arts & Sciences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides organizational, administrative, planning and budget support to the faculty of the Department of Genetics.
- Serves as departmental liaison and point of contact for students and faculty as well as persons and organizations outside the Department and University systems.
- Exercises independent judgement and initiative.
- Arranges and coordinates the design and logistics for meetings, seminars, and special events.
- Provides assistance to faculty and staff, which includes preparation and distribution of correspondence, scheduling appointments, reserving conference rooms, and processing purchase orders and guest reimbursements.
- Prioritizes work, resolves routine conflicts and issues, and prepares and implements administrative guidelines and procedures for unit.
- Prepares, processes, and controls records, statistics, and reports, and performs fiscal support functions.
- Completes other work consistent with the understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Department of Genetics.
- Leads communication between faculty, staff, students, and other departments.
- Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with regular review of work outputs by supervisor.
- Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general administrative/office management principles and practices and a good understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of unit administration.
