The Public Works department is seeking a Building Trades Technician, as the quality of customer service to our citizens, business owners and visitors is top priority, and that starts with our employees.

Under general supervision, performs intermediate or journey-level skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of City buildings, facilities, and equipment; and performs related duties as required.
As a Building Trades Technician, you will be assigned the day-to-day tasks, that will consist of numerous skilled trades duties and responsibilities. Our focus of Importance is working SAFE and SMART all while keeping our customers in mind and assuring the work order requests are met. We strive to work as a team and share our ideas for optimum efficiency and effectiveness.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: performs intermediate or journey-level skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of agency buildings, facilities, and equipment. Performs a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks; performs preventative maintenance duties and identifies parts, tools and other service needs; uses hand and power tools; installs and removes a variety of equipment; troubleshoots maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement; repairs railings, fences, fixtures, roofs, walls, park and playground equipment and related structures; Performs rough painting, routine plumbing and electrical repairs, and plastering and construction tasks; makes repairs to buildings and facilities with plaster, wood, and cement;; keeps records of time and material; submits reports of work performed; prepares requests or recommends major repair or replacement of facilities which are beyond the maintenance scope of this position. May oversee and/or monitor contractual maintenance and construction work.
SELECTION PROCESS: Candidate’s whose education and experience appear to best meet the needs of the City will be invited to take a written examination. Those who pass the written examination will be invited to the Oral Board Interviews. A candidate must pass all components of the testing process to qualify for the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Completion of High School or GED and one year of experience in construction or facilities maintenance work or related labor or semi-skilled work.
LICENSES
A valid Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License required at time of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: the methods, materials, and tools used in building construction and maintenance repair work, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and masonry work, and minor electrical work, safety procedures.
Ability to: estimate time and materials needed to complete jobs; use tools and equipment commonly used in building construction, maintenance, and repair work; keep simple records; follow oral and written instructions.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Requires some physical effort including bending, stooping, climbing and lifting items weighing 20 - 75 lbs. Tasks are occasionally performed in inclement weather.
