This role is an integral part of our Genentech Vacaville site, one of the largest cell culture manufacturing facilities in the world. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of equipment/automation engineers and manufacturing specialists to support our large-scale, fast-paced, and dynamic manufacturing operations, also known as Make, Assess, Release (MAR). This team works to ensure reliable system performance, investigates major equipment events, and contributes to the successful transfer of new processes into the facility.
The Opportunity:
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will leverage your leadership and exceptional problem-solving capabilities to coach and develop people, drive continuous improvement, and set priorities. You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across various functions to support the delivery of high-quality drug substances. Additionally, you will:
Be accountable for process equipment performance, resolution of production issues, and partner with plant management to meet manufacturing goals and objectives
Assign roles and responsibilities to support daily plant operations, facilitate investigation strategies, and present in audits and governance meetings
Support the advanced troubleshooting of complex manufacturing systems, facilitate options analyses, train and develop staff, lead the development of improvement projects, and contribute to the project scope and requirements for larger projects
Who You Are:
You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Life Science AND 12 years of demonstrated expertise in engineering operations
You possess industry experience in biotech/pharmaceutical or other regulated industry
You have at least 5 years of people leadership experience
You have at least 5 years of experience with Upstream or Downstream Commercial Cell Culture processing
You are proficient in cGMP or equivalent regulations as they apply to biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
You have experience in managing quality records, including developing investigation strategies, determining potential product impact, and implementing short and long-term solutions
You possess an in-depth knowledge of equipment including sanitary design requirements and ASME BPE requirements
You have the demonstrated ability to independently evaluate situations and propose effective and sound solutions
Relocation is approved for this position.
The expected salary range for this position is based on the primary location of California is $132,370 - 245,830. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
