The Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is a large teaching and research department within the School of Medicine, and is comprised of 27 primary faculty, 25 joint faculty, 58 non-faculty academic staff, 85 postdoctoral fellows, about 120 graduate students, and 100 non-academic staff.
This position supports the Agard/Booth/Stroud/Verba/ labs with glassware washing and sterilization, preparing tips, sterilization, and maintain the inventory, media preparation for bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cell culture. Media preparation and autoclaving, including more complex preparations requiring some experience and/or a strong scientific background. Common laboratory solution preparation, as well as the ability to prepare more complex materials as needed. It involves maintaining both labs inventory of commonly used items by monitoring inventory and placing new orders. The position also supports the labs by making competent cells, regeneration of Ni-Nta resin, antibiotics, common buffers, solutions, and ensuring all items are correctly pH.

- Three (3) or more years of lab experience
- Experience making media, buffers, and doing general laboratory maintenance, including keeping records and anticipating equipment needs.
- High school graduation and two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college, including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Knowledge of scientific equipment (centrifuge, tissue culture hood, ultra-low freezers)
- Documented experience making chemical solutions
- Ability to multitask
