Job Overview:
The RWJBH Security Sergeant supervises the Security team. They will work closely with Management and Administration to ensure a cohesive and professional environment for all patients, visitors, and staff with a blend of vigilance and compassionate service.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Certification Licensure
- Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver’s License with eligibility to be covered by RWJBH insurance carrier.
- Ability to acquire certification for de-escalation training within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Proficiency in keyboarding/data entry and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
- A minimum of one (1) year of customer service, security experience, or prior military service preferred.
- Strong command over verbal and written communication.
- Bilingual language skills to effectively communicate with a multilingual community preferred but not required. (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Polish depending on facility needs.)
Scheduling Requirements
Essential Functions:
- Supervisors officers. Maintains a safe and secure environment. Assist with patrol, and makes reliefs.
- Address officer problems and makes recommendations to correct them.
- Assists with post reliefs.
- Checks all paperwork to ensure that all is properly completed.
- Covers shift when needed.
- Demonstrates willingness to be flexible with unplanned assignments, as necessary.
- Directs the workforce accordingly.
- Ensures that all officers know their post assignments.
- Ensures that all posts are properly manned.
- Gives a written report to immediate supervisor informing them of the day’s event.
- Inspects officers for neatness, cleanliness and overall appearance.

- Patrols all areas of the Medical Center to ensure that all is secure.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Provides assistance with training.
- Responds to unusual situations, takes charge of any irregularities.
- Submits work orders for any safety, engineering or housekeeping problems and follows up to determine if completed.
- Updates all Supervisors and Operations Officers on any
- Works closely with Administration.
- Perform weapon screening and enforce facility policies, ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Respond to emergencies, participating in crisis de-escalation using certified training techniques.
