POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Professional will support Devon’s corporate initiatives and programs and serves as a subject matter expert on emission modeling and estimation. This position will consist of project work that involves the development, preparation, processing, and management of emissions and other environmental related modeling and calculations. The role will understand environmental regulations and air emissions modeling software and will be willing to learn company data systems and can source the information for permitting and regulatory filing purposes. The successful candidate will be a well-organized, self-starter, who can anticipate needs, and deliver on projects to avoid delays. This position will require technical aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide expertise regarding environmental projects, which includes: knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques concerning facilities and systems for controlling pollution and protecting air quality and the environment
- Research regulatory and scientific written materials and provide training and guidance
- Recognize, evaluate, and develop necessary controls for occupational health hazards, environmental impacts, and safety concerns.
- Support of special projects to reduce air emissions from operational activities
- Serve as a technical mentor and trainer for environmental staff
- Ability to create and troubleshoot air compliance tools focused on the upstream oil and gas industry
- Serve as a technical lead for air quality compliance assurance and air permitting calculations (including major and minor source air permit applications under NSR, PSD, Title V, and state-level regulations)
- Responsible for data gathering, assimilation, and management thereof, to make emission determinations
- Maintain and monitor data through various databases and spreadsheets
- Able to recommend appropriate action and solutions to operations and engineering
- Prepare presentation materials, business performance documents, and inter-organization communications
- Ability to perform emissions calculations using Promax
- Partner with operations staff and contractors to promote solutions to drive continuous improvement
- Formulate and promote sound and cost-effective recommendations to improve EHS performance, which support the Company’s objectives and goals, including the Company’s emissions reduction targets
- Represent the Company in a positive working relationship with federal, state/province, and local regulatory agencies, as well as trade associations to promote the Company’s positions related to EHS and learn about other companies’ activities in a way that influences the Company’s business in a positive way
PREREQUISITES
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
- Minimum of 5 years related experience desired, preferably in the oil and gas industry
- Experience with Promax software
- Title V and greenhouse gas reporting experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project related goals
