East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) Design Division, part of the Engineering and Construction Department, is seeking an Associate Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineer who is motivated, energetic, a team player, a strong project manager, and experienced with working on civil infrastructure projects. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, Associate Engineer is the registered professional engineer level position on the EBMUD engineering career ladder.
The selected individual for the opening in Infrastructure Management will primarily manage various engineering design projects such as reservoirs, pumping plants, regulators, rate control stations, and water treatment projects. The ideal candidate is prepared to perform a mix of the following tasks:
• Manage multi-disciplinary design teams to develop water infrastructure improvement projects (water treatment plants, pumping plants, reservoirs, regulators, rate control stations).
• Overall management of multi-million-dollar capital improvement programs for water distribution facilities.
• Develop and track budgets, schedules, and the scopes of work for capital projects.
• Assist and guide project engineers in developing plans and specifications for contract documents.
• Manage consultants retained by EBMUD in the preparation of plans and specifications.
• Lead project status meetings and coordinate with EBMUD workgroups.
• Review and check engineering drawings, specifications, estimates, and reports for completeness, accuracy, and soundness of applied engineering principles and EBMUD standards.
• Prepare a variety of documents and materials, including technical reports, correspondence, and memos.
This position is eligible for a hybrid onsite and up to 2-day/week telecommuting arrangement based upon terms agreed upon between the employee and supervisor.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The most competitive candidates for the position will demonstrate proficiency in project planning and management; oral and written communication skills; development of engineering plans and specifications for contract bid documents; construction and maintenance support functions; and completion of engineering analyses.
The salary range for Associate Civil or Mechanical Engineer is $12,383 per month increasing to $13,002, $13,652, $14,335, and $15,052 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.
The salary range for Associate Electrical Engineer is $12,691 per month increasing to $13,326, $13,992, $14,692, and $15,427 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
1. A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering (or closely related) engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate;
2. Four years of professional civil, electrical, mechanical engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer level; AND
3. California registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical);
Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the position including both office and field duties. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work overtime and 24/7 standby when needed.
