JOB SUMMARY: Clinically performing neurosurgery, including endovascular and open cerebrovascular surgery, while administratively supporting the Neuroscience service line in its clinical and academic mission at JCMC and other northern hospitals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates clinical competence and surgical excellence in neurosurgery. 2. Demonstrates factual knowledge and technical skills in the preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative care of patients, including critical care, with pathologic conditions pertaining to neurosurgical care. 3. Demonstrates the knowledge and surgical experience in evolving techniques, such as endovascular procedures. 4. Maintains compliance with all applicable State, Federal, UNOS, CMS, and Joint Commission laws, rules, regulations and requirements and create policies and procedures that ensure compliance for the programs with the foregoing. 5. Surgically evaluates and treats patients who are determined to require services. 6. Rounds daily on patient(s) in accordance with best practices 7. Attends departmental and interdepartmental physician meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, quality improvement process, selection meetings and other meetings deemed as appropriate. 8. Attend at least 75% of RWJBH Service Line & Medical Group meetings, events and other activities. 9. As requested, participate, align in system-wide initiatives to improve current services and to plan for strategic initiatives, including standardized reporting, guideline driven utilization of imaging and timely completion of reports. 10. Completes required medical documentation for patients’ charts in a timely manner according to hospital bylaws. Completes and signs operative reports within 24 hours of surgery. 11. Provides accurate and detailed reports to referring physicians in a timely manner. 12. Provides accurate and complete information required for billing and coding. 13. Provides clear instructions and explanations regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications and follow-up to patients and their respective family members. 14. Collaborates with surgeons, members of the surgical team, nurses, nurse practitioners, ancillary staff and other physicians and promotes a cohesive team environment. 15. Maintains effective working relationships with attending physicians outside of the Department, as well as other Hospital department staff and Administration. 16. Demonstrates thorough knowledge and adherence to Hospital policies and procedures. 17. Participate in Endovascular, General Neurosurgery, and Open Vascular call. 18. Participate in a rotation of cardiology call at Jersey City Medical Center as determined by hospital and medical leadership.
