Job Description
Summary
The Chief Development Officer will advance the organization’s mission with raising revenues to fund St. Joseph Center’s non-profit work. The Chief Development Officer will work closely with the CEO and development team to strategically implement high-impact fundraising strategies. The Chief Development Officer is directly responsible for meeting or surpassing the fundraising goals, including develop and recommend to the President & CEO for budget approval. The Chief Development Officer will provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight, and efficient coordination for the development team to execute the development plan, and to monitor progress toward these goals. The Chief Development Officer will also support the CEO and the Board of Directors to cultivate relationships that strengthen and expand St. Joseph Center’s networking contacts.

Lead and manage St. Joseph Center’s annual overall development efforts including annual giving, online & direct mail campaigns, major gifts, special events, and other solicitations
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure financial support for the organization's programs and initiatives aimed at addressing homelessness.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources to secure philanthropic contributions and grants.
Lead and oversee all aspects of individual giving programs, including major gifts, annual giving campaigns, and planned giving initiatives.
Identify and pursue opportunities for corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and cause-related marketing campaigns to generate revenue and support for the organization's mission.
Collaborate with the executive team and board of directors to set fundraising goals and objectives aligned with the organization's strategic priorities.
Plan and coordinate special events, fundraising campaigns, and donor cultivation activities to engage supporters and raise awareness of homelessness issues.
Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies to recognize and acknowledge contributions, cultivate donor relationships, and promote long-term engagement and loyalty.
Monitor and analyze fundraising performance metrics, financial data, and industry trends to assess progress toward goals and identify opportunities for improvement.
Provide leadership and direction to the development team, including staff and volunteers, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration to achieve fundraising targets.
Serve as a spokesperson for the organization on fundraising-related matters, representing its mission, values, and impact to donors, supporters, and the broader community
Work with the development staff and the development committee members to support fundraising and marketing efforts
Guide the Board of Directors and development committee to create strategies that meet fundraising goals
Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate and private foundation sponsors, and individual donors
Work with the manager of major gifts & planned giving to network and expand our major gifts program
Strategize and implement events and engagement opportunities for donor cultivation and solicitation
Oversee office and software systems to support all Development projects and operations
Execute and oversee all external events, including the annual gala
Demonstrate success in networking to build creative and mutually beneficial business relationships within the corporate, public and nonprofit sectors.
Achieve annual revenue targets, management and leadership capabilities. Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Five years of managerial supervisory experience.
Five years of experience and knowledge of the full spectrum of development.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Political Science, Public Policy, Administration, Social Work, or a related field from a four-year university preferred.
Master's degree in Business, Political Science, Public Policy, Administration, Social Work, or a related field from a four-year university preferred.
Understanding of homeless services and housing programs at a management level.
Understanding of various non-profit funding sources, IE: LAHSA, DHS, and DMH.
Other Qualifications
Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
Required to travel extensively (> 50% of the time).
Ability to work without supervision.
Spanish/ English bilingual preferred.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
