The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Lab Technician 2 to work in the lab of Dr. Wenpeng Liu.
Lab and Research Technician 2 employees provide increasingly complex technical support for projects and may engage in increasingly complex scientific experiments. May handle more sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or other senior lab members, such as postdoc researchers.
- Experimental work includes molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, and live cell/fixed cell microscopic imaging.
- Maintain lab inventory and order general lab supplies and prepare buffers and other common shared reagents, help with the overall laboratory maintenance for a safe and clean workspace.
- Train new lab members for general lab techniques and lab safety regulation.
- Participate and present research progress in regular lab meeting and journal club.
- Attend departmental seminars and national scientific conferences.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Education: Associate"s degree
Experience:\u00A0At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience.\u00A0\u00A0Bachelor"s degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor\u2019s degree in biological science and at least 2 years of previous experience including working in labs as student.
- Basic cell biology and molecular biology skills. Experience with microscopy, cell culture, bioinformatics and protein purification would be beneficial.
- Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate and detailed records of work performed.
