GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide support to teachers with the implementation of meaningful learning experiences that increase student skills through specially designed instruction; provide professional learning related to specialized instruction; share deep knowledge of special education research and resources with administrators and teachers; and collaborate with teachers in planning and modeling best practices. Collaborating with other coaches to provide high quality professional learning experiences for teachers to support the school improvement plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Support general curriculum special education classroom teachers through ongoing student-centered coaching cycles.
Collaborate with teachers to build their capacity to design interventions and specially designed instruction.
Assist teachers in conceptualizing what specially designed instruction looks like for individual students.
Determine areas of need for professional learning and develop and deliver relevant content.
Participate in common planning with classroom teachers to support co-planning.
Identify teachers who need support and develop goals for coaching.
Complete informal observations to inform feedback for the teachers.
Engage in student-centered instructional conversations to grow the capacity of the teacher.
Use data to drive professional learning and reflection with teachers.
Model evidence-based best practices for teachers.
Collaborate and plan with teachers by participating in team and departmental meetings.
Provide professional learning and coaching for teachers and building-level personnel on best practices related to special education across all content areas.
Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other professionals in planning programs to meet the needs of diverse populations of learners.
Assist the principal and other members of the leadership team to offer professional development opportunities for teachers which may include: team coaching, modeling effective teaching techniques and learning strategies, formative assessment strategies, conferencing, and data analysis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated excellence as a special education classroom teacher; in-depth knowledge of specially designed instruction; and expertise in collaborating with teachers to improve their practices. Experience observing and modeling in classrooms along with providing feedback to teachers, working collaboratively with teachers and school administrators, and working with teachers to improve their practices. Experience in delivery of high quality professional learning to a variety of audiences. Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience: A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Required: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License, with an endorsement in special education. Must have at least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact, including vision and hearing. Work is typically performed in an office setting with extended periods of time at computer terminals; however, job requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and light lifting of up to 20 lbs. unassisted. Must have the ability to manipulate or handle controls, objects and other materials including the ability to reach with hands and arms. Frequent contact with teachers, school staff, students, parents and the general public is required. May be required to travel throughout the County. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours may also be required.
