The Opportunity:
The Maintenance & Reliability Manager’s focus will be to build on an established Performance Excellence equipment reliability program across the facility. Drive the Equipment Reliability program/ process. Ensure high percentage of predictive (PdM) and preventative maintenance (PMs) are completed and followed up on by data. Recognize “bad actors” through data collection and lead projects to improve. The successful candidate will define, develop, and implement programs that will improve reliability and productivity across the facility as well as support/lead all maintenance functions of the mill.
How you will impact WestRock:
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and performance of all equipment.
Schedule and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts used, and equipment history.
Lead initiatives to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
Analyze equipment performance data to identify and eliminate root causes of reliability issues.
Implement reliability improvement projects, including failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
Supervise, train, and develop a team of maintenance technicians and engineers.
Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and teamwork within the maintenance department.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Develop and manage the maintenance department budget, including labor, materials, and capital expenditures.
Monitor and control maintenance costs to achieve financial objectives.
Optimize inventory levels of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
Assists in the mill budgeting, capital planning and financial review of plant performance.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
Promote and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
Work closely with production, engineering, and quality departments to coordinate maintenance activities and support production goals.
Communicate maintenance plans, progress, and issues to stakeholders, including senior management.
Act as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related matters.
Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes and practices.
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in maintenance and reliability.
Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will lead a maintenance supervisor/planner as a direct report. Perform Quality Control oversight of both mill maintenance forces and contractors to address equipment reliability issues. Coach/develop essential knowledge of multi-craft technicians, supervisor, and planner.
What you need to succeed:
5 years related leadership experience in Pulp and Paper or similar heavy industry.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher in related Engineering.
Demonstrated analytical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to excel as an individual contributor and lead in cooperative work teams.
Ability to advance technical skills through study and practical application.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Formal training and use of RCFA, RCA, RCM, IR, Oil analysis, Laser Alignment, Electrical studies and other Precision Maintenance Techniques and Technologies desired.
Working knowledge of Windows, Word, and Excel, AutoCad- a plus.
CMRP - Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional – a plus.
