Role
Water Safety Instructors (WSI) are certified through the American Red Cross (ARC). FCPS and Frederick County Parks and Recreation have an MOU to offer swim lessons. In order to maintain our American Red Cross agreement, the lessons are taught by certified ARC Instructors. These positions plan and implement lessons for babies through adult which are offered to our community.
Essential Functions
Planning activities, to include rainy day activities in case the pool suddenly becomes unavailable.
Gather and have equipment ready that is needed for the day's lessons and watch the clock to start and end on time allowing enough time to converse with parents between classes.
Teach the appropriate level skills and strokes during the class times.
Evaluate each student at the end and determine if ready to move to next level.
Prepare report cards for each student.
Fill out appropriate paperwork on red cross website to register teaching activity and help maintain current certification.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Education/Training/Experience:
Must be at least 16 years old. No prior experience is required, but it is suggested to serve as an aide first to gain some experience and knowledge
Certification/License:
Certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. Must pass a skills test to enter the course.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must pass a pretest of skills and strokes prior to entering the course. Swimming background will be needed for this.
