Position Summary
The Research Analytic & Cost Accounting Manager develops research data analytics and technology transformation strategies, including automation and artificial intelligence, that advance the mission and goals of the research enterprise at the University. Work closely with the Grant, Gift, and Investment Accounting & Compliance (GGIA&C) leadership team to generate, maintain, analyze, and present information that informs the University's implementation of strategic initiatives. Develop a deep, contextualized understanding of the University's research data environment within both a national (e.g., NSF HERD) and NYU-specific context. Provide Senior Leadership and Campus community with insights into the University's research financial performance (e.g., research expenditures and cash management). Provide research analytics, support modernization projects, and develop processes/systems that assist Research Finance Support (RFS) and Accounting, Audit & Revenue Cycle (AA&RC) management to ensure University compliance with federal, state, and city regulations as well as grant-specific requirements. Provide analysis, problem resolution, and training related to the development and defense of the University's fringe benefit and indirect cost rate proposal calculation and negotiation; develop and maintain cost and statistical databases; advise on effective use of resources. This role has a hybrid work schedule: Two days on-site and three days remote per week.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Accounting or Finance
Required Experience: 5+ years relevant experience including comprehensive knowledge of accounting or data science. Must have ample experience and demonstrated examples of financial statement reconciliations.
Preferred Experience: Experience with relational databases and reporting tools for analytics (e.g., PowerBI or Tableau). Experience with RPA/Bot or artificial intelligence uses to automate and streamline work processes. Experience with producing NSF HERD or similar research analytics. Experience with producing the facilities and administrative indirect cost rate calculations and proposal. Experience with CRIS. Experience developing metrics and other analytical methodologies, especially for Senior Leadership. Experience working in higher education.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Analytical and accounting skills, with meticulous attention to detail. Ability and demonstrated experience with collecting, analyzing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data for informed decision making. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience of effectively communicate technical information to individuals at all levels. Ability to manage multiple complex assignments in a timely manner with a high degree of quality. Ability to present and defend data results. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Peoplesoft. Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of research administration and federal grant regulations. Ability and demonstrated experience with performing quality control and accounting reconciliations to Financial Statements. Ability to employ data analytics in the services of strategic planning, gap analyses, program implementation and program evaluation. Ability to use automation tools and customize such tools for the use of others. Ability to disseminate information to Senior Leadership audiences. Ability to train staff members on how to run system queries (or create their own queries) to obtain data needed to solve operational issues.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $115,000.00 to USD $135,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
