Under the direction of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of standard to moderately complex technical tasks related to installing, maintaining and repairing heating, cooling and ventilation systems across the enterprise.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Maintains and services all air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, and ventilation units including exhaust fans. Monitors and performs preventative maintenance on the Photocatalytic Oxidation systems (PCO). This includes the cleaning of the honeycomb filters and changing of the UV bulbs. Adjusts valves to regulate temperature of lubrication oil and flow of water through system. Cleans carbon deposits, pitch, and grease from fans, vents, and ducts. Performs roof maintenance during rainy season
Maintains schedules for change-out of filters and belts, greasing, and major maintenance. Maintains cooling towers, water pumps, and other related equipment.
Monitors cooling towers as needed. Performs preventative maintenance on all related equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs or changes out Tribal Irrigation Systems. Cleans all ductwork as needed.
2. Moves controls to regulate speed of fans and to adjust vents and ducts. Records gauge readings, repairs completed, and time lost because of inoperative equipment. Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat. Replaces gauges and tightens and caulks leaky fittings.
3. Replaces motors, belts, bearings, electrical components such as circuit boards, contractors, modules, defrost time, fuses, capacitors, thermostats, etc. Greases motors and bearings. Troubleshoots systems including Freon checks with manifold and gages. Replaces and/or washes all types of filters (pleated, foam, carbon, etc.). Cleans all evaporative and condenser coils.
4. Maintains cooling towers, water pumps, and other related equipment.
Monitors cooling towers as needed. Performs preventative maintenance on all related equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs or changes out Tribal Irrigation Systems. Cleans all ductwork as needed.
5. Maintains drinking fountains, ice machines, and water filters. . Inspects and maintains boiler for kitchens and comfort heaters. Cleans and maintains swamp coolers for kitchen make-up units.
6. Writes repair work order tickets and out of order tags preparatory to equipment repair. Completes work orders as assigned. Orders and stocks parts and supplies necessary to perform all duties. Notifies management of any conditions requiring immediate attention. Completes computer log sheets for all central plants, (Cultural Center, Casino). Sets-up and maintains logs and/or journals on all equipment.
7. Cleans and maintains all work areas, to include keeping all tools and equipment in assigned areas; and maintaining all tools and equipment clean and in operable condition. Ensures all chemicals are maintained in assigned areas with proper labels (SDS). Notifies supervisor of conditions requiring immediate attention. Maintain stock of supplies, cleaning materials, and equipment needed to do the work; informs the supervisor when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
8. Collaborates with departments, vendors, general contractors, and sub-contractors when completing projects and tasks. Works with other trades to complete projects and tasks.
9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Some college or trade school accredited coursework or apprenticeship in related field preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and understand blue prints, as-builts, and schematics.
- Knowledge of emergency shut-off procedures for gas, water electrical, etc.
- Basic knowledge of computers required.
- Experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Lt. preferred.
- Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment required to complete all duties and job.
- Must have possession of own tools.
- Knowledge of power and hand tools; emergency shut-off procedures for gas, water, electrical, etc.; pumping stations; centrifugal, rotary, and impeller pumps; domestic and irrigation water systems including an understanding of fluid motion, pumps, motors, well and holding ponds.
- Familiar with ASHRAE standards.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
- A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
- HVAC/R Mechanic Certificate required.
