The University of Virginia Darden School of Business seeks a creative Assistant Director of Social Media and Content Marketing to join its Communication & Marketing team. The Assistant Director develops content for the Darden School of Business and oversees content distribution across the School’s social media channels and other digital platforms. The Assistant Director’s goal is to elevate the reputation of the Darden School, demonstrate Darden’s value, enhance the School’s position as a thought leader and grow our audience by engaging a global community of stakeholders, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, business leaders and practitioners, and general content consumers.
A part of Darden’s editorial team, this position collaborates to set strategy, leverages analytics to make data-driven decisions, produces measurable results and works in partnership with marketing and creative teams to create a compelling online presence for Darden in the social and digital landscape. The Assistant Director oversees the social media calendar; creates social media posts; sources assets to enhance social media posting; produces written, audio, and video content; and supports website copy and digital marketing efforts as needed. In addition to collaborating with internal partners, the incumbent works with external agencies as needed to develop content strategies that strengthen the Darden brand, increase engagement and drive enrollment.
This position is located in-person in Charlottesville, VA with some flexibility for a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities:
Social Media Strategy, Campaign Development and Execution
Develop and implement Darden’s social media strategy in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Maintain daily, monthly, and annual social media calendars and oversee all posts.
Serve as the organization’s central social media resource; increase the impact of social media marketers throughout the Darden enterprise.
Design and execute social media campaigns that showcase Darden’s key advantages: best educational experience, top faculty and powerful network combining to create global, responsible and entrepreneurial leaders.
Optimize social content by audience, platform, and business cycle.
Coordinate boosted and organic social campaigns.
Increase engagement with existing audiences and identify and grow new audiences.
Strengthen campaign development and execution with regular social monitoring.
Serve as a key resource for Darden’s Office of Advancement to create social media campaigns that engage alumni and prospective donors.
Increase the digital presence of the Darden faculty and the strength of Darden’s thought leadership brand.
Analytics and Monitoring
Monitor social and traditional media channels as well as online analytics to identify topics of greatest interest to our audiences and of greatest opportunity for Darden; identify and quickly leverage breaking news in areas where Darden’s voice can advance the conversation.
Regularly review, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of social media platforms and campaigns.
Identify and monitor effective benchmarks for the impact of social media programs.
Regularly share insights gained from social/traditional media monitoring with the marketing and editorial teams.
Monitor and report on relevant trends in social and digital media.
Digital Content Development, Production, and Distribution
Produce written, audio, and visual content to demonstrate Darden’s value and bring Darden’s brand strategy and story to life.
Plan and execute distribution of digital content across the Darden landscape, primarily social media outlets and the Darden website.
Generate new ways to re-package and distribute existing content.
Coordinate with internal production teams, especially the Darden Media and Creative Services teams.
Partner with art directors and designers to create visually compelling content and maintain Darden brand standards.
Education and Professional Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience required with at least one year in social media campaign management and execution.
Detailed and practical knowledge of and experience with all major and emerging social media platforms as well as posting and listening tools.
Strong analytic and reporting skills.
Experience in measuring, reporting, and analyzing program results using such tools as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics.
Demonstrated skill producing high-quality written, audio and video pieces for use on digital and social platforms.
Demonstrated excellence as both an editor and writer.
Proven track record in collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
Experience in marketing non-profits and higher education is desirable. Experience in media relations and/or journalism is desirable.
Exceptional organizational and execution skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
