Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Recycling and Waste Reduction Program is responsible for managing services on their assigned shift. This Assistant Superintendent of Recycling Program will have direct responsibility for the supervision of recycling operations - staff and leads, event set-up support, special/project management, QA and inspection management, business unit performance management (metrics, KPI’s), supply management and responding to after hour emergencies as needed. This position will be responsible for tactical and strategic planning, constructing of innovative program advancements and solutions and deploying the full set of ways and means related to modern service delivery methods and procedures in a university research environment.
Accountable for supervising department staff and all matters related to performance, hiring, timekeeping, and disciplinary action following counsel and advice provided by the Superintendent and Human Resource staff.
The Assistant Superintendent of Recycling Program works with the Recycling staff, Facilities Services (FS) staff and outside vendors to maintain all facilities and coordinate on site services. Duties critical to service delivery include setting safety standards, staff training, monitoring of the budget, managing contracts, responding to customer complaints and special requests, and managing personnel policies and actions affecting their assigned staff.
The incumbentreceives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.

BA in business administration, or related degree and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bloodborne pathogens and sharps disposal training.
Experience in Active Daily Management (ADM) for planning, organizing, and directing the work of staff including strategic planning, establishing goals and objectives, controlling costs and improving efficiency and service delivery effectiveness.
High school diploma or equivalent certification required and 5-7 years relevant experience.
Two (2) to Five (5) years’ experience working in a culturally diverse atmosphere including two years directly supervising service-oriented programs and operations in a union environment.
Solid knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services.
Experience researching and developing efficient methods of delivering services using any and all strategies and tools consistent with the area of focus and activity requiring change or optimization efforts. This includes the understanding and ability to seek and find contemporary tools to solve problems both in operational services efforts as well as business and policy programs.
Experience in the consistent application and regular use of EVS/Custodial software modules to properly manage the operation, standardize and document cleaning tasks, and reporting. Experience in implementing new software programs for custodial services.
Demonstrated track record on building and managing customer relationships, and improving customer service.
Ability to assimilate and apply work products to University policies and procedures as well as enforce departmental practices.
Demonstrated ability to think and act swiftly in response to changing demands and needs to continue delivering high quality results in all technical and business related activities.
Ability to follow through on customer requests to creatively resolve problems, answer questions and use available resources and references.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety and cleanliness quality assurance programs in large, complex environmental services departments in an academic teaching environment.
Demonstrated use of software solutions and workflow management methodologies to develop equitable work assignments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and database systems, and demonstrated experience with Computerized Management Maintenance System (Maximo/IBM).
Solid verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management.
Solid decision making and reasoning skills, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis and quality control analysis. Experience or education in budget development and management.
Solid and effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel.
